Accelerated TMS in San Jose: Depression Relief in Days, Not Weeks

A revolutionary new approach to brain health

Standard TMS works, but it asks for a real time commitment. One session a day, five days a week, for six weeks or more. For a lot of people that is a hard schedule to protect around work, family, or travel. Accelerated TMS changes the math. Instead of stretching treatment across a month and a half, your provider can deliver several sessions in a single day and complete a full course in a matter of days.

A new FDA clearance brings it to more patients

In May 2026, MagVenture received FDA clearance for accelerated TMS protocols on its TMS Therapy system for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults. The clearance lets clinicians deliver two or more sessions per day on a condensed schedule while keeping the same safety and effectiveness profile as traditional once-a-day TMS. It is the same proven technology, delivered on a faster timeline.

How accelerated TMS is different from standard TMS

The mechanism is the same as the TMS you already know. Gentle magnetic pulses stimulate a targeted area of the brain, usually the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), the region tied to mood regulation. What changes is the schedule:

  • Standard TMS: one session per day, roughly six weeks of daily visits.
  • Accelerated TMS: anywhere from 2 to 10 sessions per day based on clinical judgment, with the full course finished in days.

Accelerated protocols use both repetitive TMS (rTMS) and intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), and they can be delivered with or without MRI-based neuronavigation. For many patients, well-established scalp-based targeting methods work perfectly well, so advanced imaging is not always required. That flexibility is part of what makes the approach easier to fit to your situation.

Is accelerated TMS right for you?

Accelerated TMS is FDA-cleared for adults with Major Depressive Disorder, including many people who have not found relief from antidepressant medication. The best way to know if you are a candidate is a consultation, where we review your history and goals and recommend a protocol. We also use TMS and MeRT across a range of conditions, so if accelerated TMS is not the right fit, there is usually another path worth discussing.
